Yèvre-Le-Châtel

Located on a rocky headland overlooking La Rimarde, Yèvre has long since been a fortification; indeed, it was occupied by the Romans. In 855, Yèvre was given to the Abbey of Fleury-Saint-Benoit by King Charles the Bald. In the early 12th Century, King Louis VI the Fat, purchased the fief to make it a royal castle and the seat of a provost. The present château was built during the reign of King Philippe Auguste in the early 13th Century.

Visit the site and discover the castle, the postern, the ramparts, the Saint-Gault church, the remains of the Saint-Lubin church and small streets full of the village's delightful atmosphere. It is hailed as one of France's most beautiful villages.
