Come on a grand adventure, one that tells you about the great and small history of Chamerolles. Gardens, castle, hygiene, storytelling... choose from a whole range of educational visits focused on plants, heritage and perfume. From February to December, we welcome you by adapting our offer to suit the level and age of your students.

For kindergartens

Daily life at the castle
 

The young messenger Mertin is sent to transmit a letter to the lord of Chamerolles. Through this narrated visit, children will discover daily life at the castle and their sense of smell will be challenged. Will they recognize the good smells of the kitchen and the perfumes of Lady Louise?

Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
indoor visit

During this storytelling visit, the sense of smell will be stimulated, with the children having to recognise the tasty smells coming straight from the kitchen and the perfumes that scent the rooms.

Discovery of gardens through the five senses

What were gardens used for during the Renaissance? What did we find there? In this interactive visit, smell, hearing, touch and sight will be used to discover the six squares of our gardens. Sound identification of animals in the courtyard, symmetrical puzzles in the embroidery square, feeling of materials in the rare plants square, recognition of fruits and vegetables in the vegetable gardens, before ending in the heart of the labyrinth with the good smells of the garden.

Hygiene and perfumes over time

Have you always wanted to smell a rose? Well, you had the sense to contact us!

At the Château de Chamerolles, hygiene and perfumery reign as queens. All along the Promenade des Parfums, embark on an extraordinary history of hygiene, perfumery and cosmetics from the Renaissance to the present day. A singular way to learn about daily life in a castle.

Duration: 1½ hours approx.

From the laboratory to the washing table, from bottles to unusual objects, from the cabinet of curiosities to the bedrooms, the Promenade des Parfums will help children discover how people once lived in castles. Immerse yourself in a time where smells change from one period to another according to fashion. From flower scents to animal scents, from bathtub to dry washing, you will truly be in touch with perfume!

Cocoa and vanilla, port of call for navigators

Do you feel like an explorer? Hoist up the mainsail and sail to the Château de Chamerolles to discover the world of the great navigators. A dive into the world of the plant and spice cargos that the boats could contain, such as vanilla, cocoa, pepper, sugar, coffee... so many foodstuffs now commonly sold thanks to these great discoveries.

Duration: 1½ hours approx.

Through maps, spice boxes and rich scents, the history of trade and voyages of discovery will yield its fascinating secrets to you!

Discovering the gardens of Chamerolles

What were gardens used for during the Renaissance? Through several activities, students will discover the multiple functions of our six squares. Recognition of smells in the courtyard, symmetry of topiary art in the embroidery square, origin of plants in the rare plants square, recognition of fruits and vegetables and their seasonality in the vegetable gardens, before ending in the heart of the labyrinth by a story to reconstruct.

Entry fees

For children:

Free for those under 7

€2 per child for 7 and over

For supervisors:

We provide free admission for 8 children if you are in kindergarten; and free admission for 12 students if you are in primary school. For additional chaperones, count €5 per person.

Visit prices

Choose quality supervision and opt for a guided tour. The cost of the service is €75 per class. Before or afterwards, we invite you to enjoy the benefits of an unrestricted tour and stroll around the château, the park and the Renaissance Gardens.

On the phone, you will have the opportunity to talk to our team of helpers who will be available to adapt your château visit to suit you.

Openning days of the castle

The château doors and bridges are open to school groups as follows: 

1 February to 31 March, 1 October to 31 December: 10 am to 12 noon and 1:30 to 5:30 pm.

1 April to 30 September: 10 am to 6 pm

The château is closed on Christmas Day and all through January.

A picnic area has been provided at the château. Sheltered under a courtyard, the tables and benches await you for your lunch break.

If you prefer to sit on the grass, our reflecting pool will be an ideal place to sit. Rubbish bins are available to keep the place as clean as possible.
